My empathy towards science and sustainable environment steered my career towards environmental biotechnology and its multidisciplinary aspects. In the last few decades, the advent of rapid industrialization and inadvertent use of natural resources witnessed enormous environmental pollution. Herein, microorganisms play a crucial role in restoring the functioning of the ecosystem. Towards this, my initial days of research was channelized to investigate the underlying uptake mechanism of recalcitrants in microbes through determining the role of biosurfactants, proteome expression and enzyme activities. In the process, the biosurfactants produced by the microbes facilitated the biogenic synthesis of various nanoparticles for biomedical and industrial applications. Taking a cue from these studies, later, I explored the possibility of using proteomics in tandem with morphological, physiological, and biochemical attributes to select the stress responsive genes for deciphering the molecular and cellular effects of pesticides in microbes. Through all these research endeavours, apart from microbiological assessment, I gained the know-how of enzyme technology; proteomics; toxicological assays; singular and hybrid immobilization techniques; microcosm studies; and the scope of biology in nanotechnology. Taken together, research towards this end will definitely lead to refinement of our current understanding of global response of microbes under stress to have a holistic view of stress management.
